INSULATION RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT BY MEGGER

PURPOSE OF THE MEASUREMENT

The purpose of the measurement is to determine the leakage current resistance of the insulation. This is a function of the moisture and impurity contest of the insulation and of its temperature such that impurity contents of the insulation and of its temperature such that when these parameters are increased the insulation resistance is decreased. In addition, the leakage current and thereby the value of the insulation resistance, as measured at a constant voltage difference access the insulation, depend on the strength of the electric field during the measurement gives infomation about condition of the insulation and secures that the leakage current is adequately small.

PERFORMANCE OF THE MEASUREMENT

The insulation resistance is measured by means of an insulations resistance meter at a voltage of 2500 V d.c. Each winding is measured separately by connecting the voltage.

The type of meter used, the measuring voltage, temperature, are stated in the report.
